Here at the practice of Trey Vereen, DMD, we want to make every treatment as efficient and convenient as possible for our patients, without sacrificing the quality of dental care for which we have become known. That’s why we invest in state-of-the-art dental technology such as the CEREC® system, which allows us to custom-design and create permanent dental crowns right here at our practice. This process enables our dentist to provide many patients with their restorations in a single visit, without the need to wait weeks for them to be manufactured by an outside dental lab.
Dental crowns are customized tooth restorations that serve to improve the health, function, and appearance of teeth affected by severe damage or decay. Crowns have been standard and highly effective dental treatments for many years, helping to reinforce teeth and often saving them from extraction. While these restorative options are frequently performed as stand-alone procedures, dental crowns also serve as the finishing touches for root canal treatments and dental implants.
CEREC® is an advanced CAD/CAM technology that offers our patients the ability to receive dental crowns and other restorations in a single visit. The system combines a grinding and milling unit with special software to create custom restorations with the utmost precision. Ultimately, CEREC® provides an added convenience for many individuals, allowing them to receive their custom restoration more quickly and eliminating the waiting period that results from sending restorations to an off-site laboratory for production.
Dr. Vereen is committed to utilizing advanced dental technology and effective dental techniques that can provide the highest-quality results. CEREC® is a system we use frequently to offer more convenient and comfortable restoration procedures. The technology improves the fabrication process while also providing beautiful restorations designed to look and feel natural. CEREC® offers many advantages to our patients in need of dental crowns, including the following:
Fortunately, when CEREC® crown procedures are performed by an experienced dentist who is skilled with the utilization of this technology, there are often virtually no “cons” associated with this treatment. With the combination of this advanced manufacturing technique and Dr. Vereen’s cosmetic and restorative dentistry experience, CEREC® crowns can look and function as naturally as the original, healthy tooth once did.
The CEREC® system works by first taking digital impressions of the patient’s mouth with the CEREC® Omnicam device. The software then processes these 3D images to create restoration proposals. Once the planning is complete, the grinding and milling machine can begin crafting the custom restoration. After the restoration has been fabricated, the process can be completed in a final sintering and glazing step. Our dentist is then able to place the restoration, making any final adjustments as needed.
Since CEREC® crowns are milled out of a durable material, these restorations can last for about 10 to 15 years, if not longer. However, habits such as clenching or grinding your teeth can cause your crowns to undergo premature wear. Our dentist will explain how to care for your CEREC® restorations to prolong their lifespan. From wearing night guards when you sleep to limiting consumption of hard foods, there are certain precautions you can take to get the most from your dental restorations and maintain the results for years—even decades—to come.
Since these treatments are ultimately dependent on each patient’s customized treatment plan, the cost of CEREC® crowns at our practice varies according to one’s individual needs. With that in mind, CEREC®restorations are produced at our office, and can therefore allow patients to avoid some of the costs that may be incurred with traditional restorations, such as a separate dental visit as well as the laboratory fees associated with having the restoration created outside the office. The price of the crown(s) will be factored into your overall treatment plan, which will take into account the number of restorations necessary, the complexity of your treatment, and other components. Like traditional dental crowns, many dental insurance policies offer at least partial coverage for CEREC® crowns. Once our dentist has developed your customized treatment program during the initial consultation, a member of our dental team can provide you with a full cost estimate and answer any questions you may have. In addition to the many different insurance plans we accept here at our office, we accept a variety of payment methods and offer access to dental care financing through CareCredit®, a company that provides a range of options for qualified applicants who would like to pay for their treatment on a monthly basis.
